Mission Statement

With the support of Women's Aid, each year thousands of women and children survive domestic violence and begin rebuilding their lives. Women’s Aid is the national domestic violence charity which co-ordinates and supports a network of over 370 local projects, providing over 500 refuges, helplines, outreach services and advice centres. One woman in four is affected by domestic violence in their lifetime and over 250,000 children witness domestic violence each year. Women’s Aid urgently needs fund to continue our work to help the thousands of women and children who live in fear in their own homes.

Women’s Aid’s mission is to advocate for abused women and children and to ensure their safety by:

·campaigning for full and effective legal protection and promoting public policy and practice which respond to women and children’s needs.
·providing a Freephone 24 hour National Domestic Violence Helpline service, run in partnership between Women's Aid and Refuge.
·co-ordinating and supporting a national network of over 500 local refuge and outreach services.
·communicating the message that domestic violence is unacceptable and promoting action to prevent it.

Women's Aid provides a comprehensive and informative website (www.womensaid.org.uk). The website provides abused women with an alternative source of online support, information and help in eleven different community languages, as well as the option to self refer into the UK wide network of refuge and helpline services.

In addition to this Women's Aid provide a website specifically for children. The Hideout (www.thehideout.org.uk) is the first national website for children and young people to inform them about domestic violence, to help them identify whether it is happening in their home, to provide indirect and informal support to children and young people living with domestic violence or to those who may want to help a friend, and to signpost additional help and direct support.

Women's Aid also provides a wide range of leaflets for both the public and professionals working in the field of domestic violence including information leaflets in 11 community languages to meet the needs of women from minority ethnic communities.
