Mission Statement

The Society for Abandoned Animals was originally established in 1966, to provide food, shelter, veterinary care and new homes for animals abandoned during housing clearance in the Hulme area of Manchester. Today we now take animals from a much wider area and are staffed by a small number of paid staff and a large team of dedicated volunteers. We have facilities to take in and re-home unwanted and abandoned cats, dogs and rabbits.

Over a recent 5year period we have successfully re-homed
262 dogs, 1186 cats and 290 rabbits.

We believe in giving our animals every chance to make a new and successful start in the right home. All mature animals are neutered and micro-chipped prior to re-homing, all animals are vaccinated. Pre-adoption visits are carried out for all animals to assess the suitability of potential new homes.
We do not put any animal to sleep unless it is suffering physically, or psychologically, and the damage is irreparable, or in the case of dogs, where they display serious aggression problems and therefore cannot responsibly be rehomed.
We successfully re-home a number of elderly animals, and animals with ongoing health and/or behavioural problems.

We are heavily dependant on individual donations and our own fundraising activities to support our adoption programme.

Letter of Support

The Society for Abandoned Animals is delighted to be working with for the first time this year. This partnership will enable us to raise much needed funds and help us to continue to provide high quality care and find suitable new homes for the many unwanted cats, dogs and rabbits that need our support.

Many thanks for your support
